Women’s groups in Cambodia are encouraging women to get involved in local government.

Elections watchdog Comfrel said out of 1,600 communes there are only 108 women represented at the top level of local government.

Cambodia National Rescue Party’s Women Movement head, Kun Lum Ang said more women need to stand in elections.

“We are organizing women at the local, commune, district, provincial and national levels, and we are also running training courses. In the training course we educate them and strengthen their capabilities to prepare them to run for election,” she said.
