Cambodia’s tech sector growing without women

Cambodia’s technology sector continues to grow. However, few women are joining the field.

Sok Sikieng a lecturer of information technology at the Royal University of Phnom Penh said the although more women are working in the technology sector there has not been an increase in young women pursuing tech-related majors in college.

Sok said: “In the last few years, there was a noticeably higher number of Cambodian women tech workers who have started an association, they total around 70 [or] 80 people, and help each other to bring in more women into the field. And yet, today we [still] don’t see a marked increase in female students in tech.”

She said discriminatory barriers are putting off women from joining the industry.
