The difficult journey to becoming a female doctor in Timor-Leste

The dream of becoming a doctor in her home of Timor-Leste has led Mingota da Costa Herculano to three different countries.

She has also had to learn three different languages to complete her training.

She has now become one of Timor-Leste’s first female anaesthetists.

Growing up in Manatuto, regional Timor-Leste, Mingota had limited access to doctors.

It was because of this that she was inspired to become one.
