Better access to justice needed for women in Myanmar

Myanmar women need better access to justice according to a recently launched report.

The United Nations’ report, titled Women’s Access to Justice in Plural Legal Systems in Myanmar, was discussed by a panel in Naypyidaw.

A lead researcher for the report said formal and informal justice systems don’t work for women in Myanmar. This is due to a lack of awareness and the widespread use of customary practices.

Over 400 women were interviewed for the research which was conducted between 2013-14 in Kachin, Chin and Mon states, and Rangoon Division.
