Toolkit on eliminating violence against women and children launched by disability forum

Fiji’s Minister for Women Rosy Akbar launched a Toolkit on Elimination of Violence against Women and Children by the Pacific Disability Forum and Fiji Disabled Persons Association this month.

She said the current momentum against violence against women and children should have started a long time ago.

Ms Akbar said:

“Some might say that it’s in the culture and that it is the mind-set of men and they say this to justify the violence but this should never be the case. The time is right for us to take this issue on with urgency because it affects our mothers, our daughters, our sisters.”

She was encouraged by the Pacific Disability Forum and the Fiji Disabled Persons Association and their approach to educating their members on the pitfalls of violence against women and children.
