IWDA Stands in Solidarity with Communities Affected by the Myanmar Earthquake
Our hearts are with the people of Myanmar who yesterday experienced a powerful and devastating earthquake. We know that in times of crisis, the burden on women grows as they take on additional care for family and community in circumstances of great difficulty.
IWDA has long-standing relationships with women’s rights organisations in Myanmar who run community-led initiatives focused on gender equality, assisting internally displaced people and refugees, and focusing on women’s leadership, political ambitions and improving service delivery for women and girls.
Our thoughts are with all those affected, particularly in Shan State and northern Myanmar, where communities already face ongoing challenges due to armed conflict and instability. We have received confirmation that several of our partners and their staff are safe. However, we are still working to reach others, as communication remains difficult due to infrastructure damage and power outages. We remain committed to supporting our partners as they navigate this crisis.
