Fiji’s female entrepreneurs face hurdles

Women entrepreneurs play a strong role in Fiji’s economy but still face disadvantages according to Fiji’s Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism.

Speaking on “Women as Agents for Economic Change” at the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD 14) Minister Faiyaz Koya said:

“Our analysis shows that increasing the ability for entrepreneurs to start and grow their businesses will lead to greater economic growth, especially when it comes to women entrepreneurs.”

He said the Government provides funding for women entrepreneurs in rural communities to help them connect with markets to sell their products.
