Calls to lift ban on Myanmar women working abroad to improve safety

A temporary ban on women going abroad to work as maids was put in place in Myanmar in September 2014 following several cases of worker abuse.

However, a lack of job opportunities in Myanmar has meant women are now illegally travelling abroad to find work.

As the workers leave the country as a tourist they often find they are not protected by labour or migration laws.
