Access Promotes Participation

24.10.15

Research supported by IWDA’s Funding Leadership and Opportunities for Women program, in partnership with Fiji Women’s Rights Movement notes the “Pacific ICT revolution” and explores how increasing access to digital communication platforms is transforming the political landscape.

The report attributes the rise in social media activism and political participation online to an increase in access to communication technologies including mobile phones. This has fundamentally changed the way voters are informed and how they communicate with members of their community. As more women gain access to technology, the opportunity to engage in democracy becomes available. Access promotes participation and ultimately, equality
