Timor-Leste study finds mobile phones are an important support for new mothers
A study published in July 2016 in the open access series, BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth, has shown that the association of mobile phones with the effectiveness of childbirth health services is an indicator of a broader socioeconomic relationship.
The paper, “Does mobile phone ownership predict better utilization of maternal and newborn health services? a cross-sectional study in Timor-Leste” by Juan Nie and others, reports research based on a 2012 survey.
The authors recommend that promotion of mobile phone-based links to health services should be tied to other interventions addressing socioeconomic factors.
