Women empowered to step up in basketball
The International Basketball Federation runs a Women’s Empowerment workshop to identify, support and train women involved in basketball in the Pacific.
Leah Seru from Fiji and Lysa Wini from the Solomon Islands attended the workshop last year and have gone on to put the skills they learned to the test.
Lysa said: “I am more confident, informed and empowered to sit at the board table and contribute to the work needed in my country. One of the speakers challenged me when she told us that we limit ourselves by not stepping up to the table. We are comfortable sitting at the back and provide only a helping hand. I realised, to be heard I need to sit at the table where the discussion is happening.”
