The Silence in Violence
The rate of violence against women in the Pacific is at pandemic proportions, particularly in the Solomon Islands. An increasing number of women are reporting these offences, but many remain silenced by fear and often don’t access services designed to support and safeguard them against further trauma.
IWDA’s Funding Leadership and Opportunities for Women program partner Women’s Rights Action Movement played an influential part in coordinating the Shadow Report for the Solomon Islands’ Government submission to the CEDAW (Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women) committee. The submission included measures that Women’s Rights Action Movement supported and was developed to encourage stronger commitments to CEDAW.
