Steel factory in Myanmar to compensate female workers for abusive conditions

Myanmar’s Arbitration Council has upheld its ruling that the Yar Shin steelworks factory in Hmawbi township must compensate three female workers who allege they faced abusive conditions.

An inspection team from the Myanmar National Human Right Commission and the Ministry of Labour slammed the factory for having poor safety standards and working conditions.

Deputy Chair of the Hmawbi union Ko Aung Ko Latt said the women were punished by the factory for reporting the poor working conditions and found themselves out of work.
