While a gender balance is yet to be achieved, an increasing amount of women are studying medicine and becoming doctors in Papua New Guinea.

Dr Evelyn Lavu sees an increase in men respecting and appreciating her and other women in her field. She believes that women are being acknowledged more, but says men’s acceptance of females learning and achieving the same things as males is a challenge to overcome.
