Submission to the UN Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women: COVID-19 and Domestic Violence Against Women in Papua New Guinea

In response to an urgent call for information put out by the UN Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women, organisations in Papua New Guinea (PNG) put together a joint submission detailing increases of violence observed in their communities during COVID-19.

The information provided by our partners Voice for Change, Wide Bay Conservation Association and Eastern Highlands Family Voice with Femili PNG, local NGO which runs safe houses in PNG, will be used by the Special Rapporteur to report on the status of women to UN General Assembly in October.

The submission details observations and stories collected over the last few months and opens a window to the experiences of rural women during the COVID-19 crisis.

This submission contains accounts of sexual assault.
