Plan Your Power Advocacy Tools and Training

IWDA delivers online and face-to-face advocacy training and resources for women’s rights organisations. Our training takes you through every stage of the advocacy planning process, culminating in a comprehensive advocacy strategy ready to implement. Working with Plan Your Power will ensure your advocacy is targeted, sustainable and transformative.

Plan Your Power resources—toolkit and online course—are currently only available in English, but workshops can be conducted in English and your desired language with translator support. Courses can be provided in person (travel permitting) or online.

Plan Your Power Training

Strategic advocacy planning workshop for organisations

A participatory, inclusive, and interactive workshop for women’s rights organisations or networks wanting to create a strategic advocacy plan.

At the end of the workshop, your team will have:

  • An advocacy plan ready to implement
  • Ability to embed a women’s rights approach into your advocacy work
  • A clear framework for future advocacy planning
  • Useful tools to support monitoring, evaluating and learning throughout the planning process.

Price includes full access to Plan Your Power Online Advocacy Planning Fundamentals (approx.. 7 hours of content) to be completed before the workshop, and a hard copy of the Plan Your Power Toolkit.

Advocacy Planning Fundamentals

Master advocacy fundamentals at your own pace

An online course for individuals who prefer self-directed learning. Ideal for advocates and campaigners who are looking for a more sophisticated advocacy planning process.

A four module program with an interactive storytelling approach, designed to build women’s rights organisations and civil society group’s capacity in developing advocacy strategies and campaigns. Mixing case studies, scenarios, brainstorming, critical reflection, audio-video, quizzes and journaling, it helps learners get to grips with key concepts around women’s rights and each step of the advocacy planning cycle

At the end of the online course you will have:

  • An understanding of women’s rights approach to advocacy
  • Knowledge of key steps for successful advocacy planning
  • Tools to assist you with advocacy planning
  • A completed advocacy plan workbook to test with your colleagues or inform your participation in a PYP Workshop
  • A certificate of completion

Created in partnership with Womankind Worldwide, the Plan Your Power toolkit adapts mainstream advocacy planning processes to incorporate a deeper understanding of gendered, and intersecting power relations, to strengthen feminist movements.
This toolkit adapts mainstream advocacy planning processes to incorporate a deeper understanding of gendered, and other intersecting, power relations to strengthen our movements for gender equality and ensure that allies incorporate the priorities of diverse women in their future advocacy.

Advocacy Planning Workshops

Plan Your Power advocacy planning workshops will support your organisation to develop an advocacy strategy embedded in women’s rights principles. The training takes your organisation through every stage of the advocacy planning process, culminating in a comprehensive advocacy strategy ready to implement.   

 Working with Plan Your Power will not only ensure your advocacy is targeted, it will guide you towards achieving long-term structural change. A women’s rights approach to advocacy is more than just the end product of achieving the advocacy aim; it is the journey where all women’s voices are heard and women are empowered to act.  

 Plan Your Power will not only help you achieve your advocacy goals, it will empower your staff by providing them with the framework and tools to lead strategic advocacy in the future. 

 Participants are given complimentary access to IWDA’s Plan Your Power Online Learning Course so they can feel prepared to engage in an interactive and collaborative workshop.  

 Courses can be provided in person (travel permitting) or online. Options include a dedicated follow up support plan to monitor the plan’s implementation.
