Papua New Guinea needs to train more trauma counsellors
Papua New Guinea’s Community Development Department Secretary Anna Solomon says the country needs more professional counsellors.
Speaking at a recent forum at the Australian National University in Canberra she said trauma counsellors are needed to support women and children who have experienced violence and sometimes those supporting them.
Operations manager for Not-for-profit group Femili PNG Denga Illave said at the end of every harrowing day at work she hugs her own children tightly.
Femili PNG offered support to family violence victims in Lae.
“All the cases of women who come to seek help touch my heart,
but the women who come with children, (those hit you hardest),” Illave said.
