In Defense of Defenders

29.07.15

“Women Human Rights Defenders (WHRD) are at the forefront of the struggle to defend human rights, and they do it with passion, courage and dedication. WHRDs are attacked for who they are – their gender identity, and for what they do – fight for human rights. It is both their identity and their work that makes them vulnerable to specific attacks, as their activities in human rights defense question fundamental assumptions about gender roles in society.” – Association for Women’s Rights

IWDA recognises that WHRDs are at increased risk for their work and through the Funding Leadership and Opportunities for Women program, facilitates counselling services in partnership with Voice for Change and the Nazareth Centre for Rehabilitation in Papua New Guinea.
