Governments must work to uphold international obligations to protect women from violence

A report by ActionAid shows that there needs to be a greater focus on meeting international obligations, laws and national action plans to ensure that women are protected from violence. Efforts by local groups to improve these situations are either ignored or met with threats and intimidation.

Activists in particular are feeling increasingly under threat in their work. There is a lot to be done in order for governments to meet the UN resolution adopted in 2013, which resolved to protect women defending human rights.
