Gender inequality makes and keeps women in poverty

29.09.15

Globally, gender inequality deprives women and girls of basic rights and opportunities, making and keeping them in poverty. According to UN Women, economically disadvantaged girls are more than twice as likely to become child brides as those who come from wealthier families. They also face life-threatening risks from early pregnancy, and are often unable to receive an education and a good income.

Women deserve the right to full access to tools that can end poverty, from the latest technologies to programmes providing training, loans and practical skills.

The end of poverty can only be achieved with the end of gender-based discrimination.
