Falling Short of the Nomination List

History has repeated itself as Fiji elects Major Genereal Jioji Konrote as the next President of Fiji. Although three women were shortlisted as candidates, they were not nominated in the final stages of the election. The outcome shows that despite significant gains brought about by a vibrant Fijian women’s movement, more vital work supported by programs like IWDA’s Funding Leadership and Opportunities for Women program needs to be done to create a future where one day, Fiji will have a woman for President.
