Cricket builds confidence for young women in Papua New Guinea

The Girl’s Empowerment Through Cricket Program is giving young women in Papua New Guinea an opportunity to express themselves and build confidence.

Cricket PNG’s Susan Komang said most of the girls taking part are “naturally brilliant but the community and society has been holding them back”.

“Here in PNG, we are more dominated by males so the female is seen as less important in the community. It is a challenge for us to get these girls to be more confident and build their self esteem.

“When they first started they were shy and lacked confidence but once they start playing all this just goes away. They just have fun and run wild and free,” said Susan.
