Chiefs pledge to protect women and children

Chiefs and traditional leaders in Bua, Fiji have pledged to protect women and children from domestic violence at a district meeting held in Daria village.

Leaders from nine villages vowed that women and children would be protected at all times

Tui Wainunu Ratu Orisi Baleitavea said at the meeting that anyone found hitting or abusing women and children would be handed over to police.

He told the meeting that hitting women and children was not part of the iTaukei culture.
