Challenges to overcome for a better chance at gender equality in the Pacific

Overcoming a number of tough legal challenges in the Pacific is key to progressing gender equality in the region, according to legal experts and researchers.

A number of key challenges were discussed at this year’s Pasifika Law and Culture Conference at Victoria University held in Wellington New Zealand.

A University of Canterbury law student said arrangements in Papua New Guinea relating to payments for brides have become focussed on financial gain and often result in women having no say in the deal.
