Access to good quality, paid work is crucial to women’s empowerment, both in and outside their homes

A forum run by Empower Women during May and July of 2015 raised discussions regarding the economic independence and empowerment of women across the world. The ability to obtain paid, safe and secure employment is decidedly a crucial element in achieving this.

Women face varying degrees of sexual harassment and exploitation within workplaces. According to Empower Women, many are not officially employed, yet contribute to businesses as unpaid workers. Mpume Mqwebu of South Africa explains that bad working conditions are “forced on women and purported as part of a day’s work”.
