Frameworks for Protection: An Important Step

It is difficult to digest the reality that men’s violence against women was not criminalised in Solomon Islands until very recently. The historical absence of legal protection against violence is partly to blame the fact that almost two out of three women in Solomons experiences violence.

IWDA’s Funding Leadership Opportunities for Women program partner, Women’s Rights Action Movement (WRAM) lobbied heavily and played an influential role in the passing of the bill. While the Family Protection Bill has been passed, it is yet to be implemented, but one thing is sure – change is on the agenda.
