100 million women in developing countries to receive mobile phones

Tata Communications and Mastercard have joined together to provide free mobile phones to 100 million women in developing countries.

Access to technology such as this provides women with more opportunities for education, financial independence, and overall wellbeing.

A 2014 UNESCO study found that, of the 4,000 plus people surveyed in a seven developing countries, 62 percent said they are reading more as a result of mobile applications. Many groups have also developed mobile platforms that will potentially save up to 800 pregnant women per day from preventable conditions, by arming them with vital health information to protect themselves and their children.
