Women and children in remote areas of Myanmar to be counted

For the first time, women and children in remote areas will be counted in a census.

People living in the northern non-government-controlled Wa Self-Administered Division have never been officially counted.

“As a woman, I am concerned that illiteracy is higher among women than among men. In this way, understanding the census data motivates me to advocate for more girls to attend school” said Yex Ahng, a representative from the Wa Traditional Culture Association.
