Why gender equality is the most critical of all the global goals
Women’s empowerment is a pre-condition for challenging key issues of the 21st century, including poverty, inequality and gender-based violence. Without full equality of the genders in society, economy, governance and leadership, no country will properly fulfil global humanitarian goals.
UN Women Executive Director Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka discusses the critical gap between committing to advances in these areas and carrying those commitments out, such as underfunding of gender ministries.
