IWDA Strategic Plan 2025-2035

IWDA exists to defend and advance the rights of women, girls and gender-diverse people. Within the ecosystem of women’s rights organisations, we are both for and of feminist movements

Anchored by lessons from our 40-year history and guided by fiercely held feminist and decolonial values, this strategic framework lays out IWDA’s path towards realising our vision of gender equality for all – one in which we stand in our power as a formidable force for feminist transformation.

As an Australia-based organisation, we work for feminist movements by resourcing diverse women’s rights and aligned organisations, primarily in Asia and the Pacific, with the money, skills and access they need to achieve their priorities.

We are also part of feminist movements, making our own contributions through knowledge creation, advocacy and movement strengthening, to advance our vision of gender equality for all.

Our 10-year framework is designed to allow us to be ambitious and build the momentum needed to create lasting change, with shorter 3-year planning, monitoring, evaluation and learning cycles giving us the flexibility to adapt and stay sustainably impactful in an increasingly challenging external context.

The current framework details the strategies and actions we will take over the next three years to:

  • Create better and more equitably funded movements
  • Centre Majority World movements and organisations in feminist and decolonial impact
  • Contribute to more feminist-informed policy and decision-making
  • Model a different way of being as a values-aligned organisation

From Ripples to Waves: IWDA's theory of change
With this new framework, we are deepening our commitment to decoloniality – establishing it as a value as core to our practice as feminism. To support this commitment, the strategy includes a number of cross-cutting actions designed to support and hold us accountable to embedding decoloniality across our organisational work. We are also choosing to no longer include thematic impact areas in our strategy, ensuring the work our partners are leading to create change in their own contexts is not bound or siloed by our priorities. The only impact area we are committing ourselves to in this new framework is gendered climate justice, alongside an expanded focus on work with feminist movements in Australia, as part of our efforts to make change in our own backyard.
