The Role of Leadership in Securing Women’s Rights
A study examining men’s violence against women in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville highlights the extreme rates of intimate partner violence perpetuated by men in the region. The 2013 study revealed that four out of five men will be violent with a woman or girl in their lifetime.
IWDA works with Funding Leadership and Opportunities for Women program partners in Bougainville to equip Women Human Rights Defenders with the capacity and resources to provide support to women who have experienced violence. Additionally, the program focusses on improving women’s leadership in Papua New Guinea, because when women are in positions of power they have the potential to change policies and reshape the realities of women and girls in the region.
