The Consequences of Climate Change
The severe climate conditions in PNG have seen frost and drought destroy crops and dry up local water supplies. The drought has been described as the worst since 1997 and is forcing women and children to walk further to access water.
The implications of climate change are far reaching, with significant consequences for women and children. Authorities should engage with local women’s civil society organisations, as they are best placed to assist in developing a gender-inclusive response to climate change. IWDA’s Funding Leadership and Opportunities for Women program works with local women’s CSOs across the Pacific, enhancing their capacity to advocate for change.
