04.11.15

John Pombe Magufuli’s victory in the recent Tanzanian election will mark the first ever female vice president in the country’s history.

Tanzania’s ruling party, Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), has been at the forefront of the push for more female leaders, and elected Samia Suluhu Hassan as Magufuli’s running mate.

Hassan has previously served as the only high ranking female minister in Zanzibar, and has served in two other ministries, including gender and development.
