Senate push for more women on government boards
A recent bill put forth by members of the Senate calls for equal female representation on government boards. Not only would this bill make it compulsory for women to appear on at least 40 percent of government boards, but also require annual reporting in relation to the gender composition of the boards.
Carolyn Hewser, a backer of the bill, believes that the senate could lead and influence others in this regard. “Do not underestimate the important message that this legislation for balanced representation will send to corporate Australia, the civil society sector and wider Australian community,” she said.
