Gendered Marketplace Assessment – Suai, Covalima
Marketplaces are extremely important for women’s livelihoods in Timor-Leste – it is estimated that 75 – 90% of vendors in municipal and sub-municipal markets are women.
This report outlines the process and findings from a gender and disability assessment of two marketplaces in the town of Suai, in Covalima.
The purpose of this assessment was to investigate, analyse and document the current conditions, usability, and opportunities for improvements as identified by women vendors themselves; to enable women and people with disabilities safe, inclusive and gainful utilisation of the marketplaces.
The assessment was conducted from late 2019 to early 2020, in partnership between Covalima Community Centre, IWDA and Oxfam in Timor-Leste.
