Port Moresby’s female-only bus

A free, hourly bus funded by Australian Aid and the UN allows the women and girls of Papua New Guinea’s capital to travel comfortably and free of harassment.

Katherine Webber, UN’s Safe Cities Program Coordinator in Port Moresby says that 90% of women reported some form of violence while at a bus stop or travelling on a bus.

A male-free mode of transport is a welcome, safe alternative as criminals often target girls, according to one high school student.
