Launching Leadership
IWDA’s Funding Leadership and Opportunities for Women program partner, Bougainville Women’s Federation, recently conducted research which investigates the opportunities and barriers to young women’s leadership in Bougainville.
The findings identify illiteracy, responsibilities at home, and a lack of mentorship from mature leaders as key contributors that prevent young women from rising in leadership ranks or looking for opportunities to participate in the first place.
Bougainville Women’s Federation Project Officer, Florence Naina, says that this research has guided her work with the organisation, launching leadership training programs and establishing mentoring networks to improve women’s leadership in Bougainville.
