Lao Vice-Minister of Education and Sport calls to stop the silence on violence against women and girls

Lao Vice-Minister of Education and Sport is calling for the silence around violence against women and girls to stop. In a video clip produced with support from UN Women, Lytou Bouapao, Deputy Minister of Education and Sport; Bouaphan Ratthida, Head of the Sub-Commission for the Advancement of Women at the Ministry of Education and Sport; and Andrea Nyberg, UN Women’s Programme Analyst, discuss the negative impact of gendered violence.

“In Lao PDR, some men think using physical violence is an acceptable way to raise a girl. Around this issue there is a culture of silence,” Bouapao says.
