Instituting Gender Sensitive Policies
In 2014, local councils in Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands demonstrated their commitment to improving gender equity by hiring 23 women and developing gender sensitive policies. They underwent a gender strengthening review, which produced positive hiring practices, ultimately resulting in the institutionalisation of gender sensitivity in policy.
Improving gender sensitivity of local government policy making, programming and service delivery remains a key objective of IWDA’s Funding Leadership and Opportunities for Women program.
