Persisting domestic violence in PNG

For too long, violence against women has been shrugged off as a woman’s issue. Men must be involved in the conversation in order to be a part of the solution.

Ensuring that men and boys are educated on the importance of gender equality is a significant way that the global goals (SDGs) can differ from the previous millennium development goals (MDGs) moving forward.

In Papua New Guinea, prioritisation of resources also needs to be addressed to ensure the SDGs will receive adequate funding and the fifth goal of empowering all women and girls will be achieved.

“Empowerment and equality don’t stand alone. They exist through the grace of equal educational opportunities, the provision of adequate health services, the protection of the weak and vulnerable in society, and justice and law reforms.”
