While women are often left out of most public decision-making, their underrepresentation in peace negotiations is particularly notable.
In Myanmar, stereotypes and common cultural beliefs, including the misconception that they are too inexperienced, prevent women from holding key leadership roles. While they may have been excluded at the public level, women have very specific experiences with conflict and significant reasons and motivations to prioritise peace.
