Cultural taboo a factor against gender discrimination in the Pacific
September 28, 2015
Jovesa Makutu Ravula, a local youth leader from the Fiji Red Cross Society, says that one of the biggest challenges to achieving gender equality is cultural taboo.
Speaking at a recent Violence Against Women workshop in Suva, Ravula explained that eliminating violence against women in the Pacific is “different altogether as opposed to overseas countries”. He wishes to lobby for training that will better approach gendered issues in Pacific Island countries.
