Advocacy Begins with Confidence
September 14, 2015
Violence against women in Fiji is prolific. It is both costly for women and for the Pacific community more broadly. To examine the scale of the issue and develop responses, a panel discussion was held in Fiji earlier this month that focussed on “Exploring innovative approaches to addressing the crisis of Violence Against Women”.
Fiji Women’s Rights Movement Executive Director Tara Chetty and Funding Leadership and Opportunities for Women G.I.R.L.S program graduate Lolene Tuiqala contributed to the panel discussion. FWRM’s G.I.R.LS. Program is designed to enhance the confidence of participants to use their voice for advocacy. Watch Lolene Tuiqala talk about how this FLOW program has given her the confidence to break the silence around abuse and advocate for the elimination of violence against women in Fiji.
